Social Media Strategies for Your Ecommerce Store

In order to pump up your sales, you need to have a killer online presence. Knowing where your customers are hanging out is a great start to this presence. Any ecommerce store worth its weight will have a specific target market or demographic. Knowing social media platform your customers are interacting on can be an extremely valuable piece of information.

Social Media Strategies for Your Ecommerce Store

Social Media Strategies for Your Ecommerce Store
Top Sites:
  • Pinterest- 80% of the people on Pinterest are women. Therefore if an ecommerce website sells products catered to women, they should have a very prominent presence on this social site. Home theater ecommerce sites might benefit from pinning more of their game room and concession products than speakers and projectors.
  • Facebook-Over 50% of Facebook and Twitter users say that they are more likely to buy or recommend from a brand that they already follow on one or both of the big social sites.
  • Google Plus –  Mostly men are on Google Plus, therefore if you have an ecommerce site that sells products men would be interested in, it would be a good idea to start building your circles on G+.
  • Twitter- Many business owners don’t understand how to utilize twitter to their biggest advantage. Twitter can be a great tool to find influencers online. Using their custom search bar to find followers in a certain niche is a great start. By using hashtags and mentioning people or companies in your tweets, you can not only reach a broader audience, but also get people interacting with your posts.
Good Match:
Once you have the attention of your target audience, you want to portray how your products or services are better than your competitors. Explaining your company’s unique advantages will set you apart from your competition the next time that consumer is looking to purchase your products.

Great Content Marketing:
This is one of the main keys to reeling in your potential customers. High quality images and informative blog posts will work wonders if you are sharing it with the right audience. With more and more customers liking and following your pages and boards, enticing them with offers will help to secure the hook. By offering incentives on your newsletter or page, your new subscribers will be more likely to purchase from your site.

Build Relationships With Influencers:
Each time someone shares your content, they are introducing you to their audience. If the two of you are in a similar niche, the odds are you will reach many more ideal customers than you could have done on your own. By sharing other people’s content, they will often feel inclined to share yours. Retweeting, mentioning companies on Facebook, or linking to companies in your industry is a great way to build a relationship. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

Remember, the first step in building a solid social media platform is to know where your audience is. Also, social media isn’t only used to get people to purchase your products. It can be used for building relationships, spreading your online presence, and finding out what your customers want.

Race Day Tips for Running Your First Race

So youve done your training for your first race, whether its a 5K, 10K or other race distance. As your race day approaches, you may have some questions and concerns about what to expect on race day. If youre fairly new to running, here are some tips for running your first race.

1. Pick Up Your Race Packet Early

Runners waiting in lineJetta Productions
Pick up your race bib, timing chip (if the race is using them) and goody bag the day before the race, if possible. This way, you wont have to worry about rushing to get it on the morning of the race. Also, youre more likely to get your desired race T-shirt size if you pick it up early.

2. Dont Overdress

A good rule of thumb: Dress as if the weather is 15 degrees warmer than it is. Thats how much youll warm up once you start running. If its cold, you can always wear warmer clothes while youre waiting for the race to start. Many races offer a gear check where you can store your bag with extra clothes for before and after the race.

3. Choose Your Pre-Race Food Wisely

Eat a meal at least one hour prior to the start of the race. Choose something high in carbohydrates and lower in fat, fiber, and protein. Stay away from rich, fatty, or high-fiber foods, as they may cause gastrointestinal distress.

4. Pin Your Bib

Race bibPhoto by Gary John Norman
Your race bib goes on the front of your shirt, not the back. You can use safety pins on all four corners of the bib to keep it in place. Its important to wear your bib to let race officials know youre part of the race. In addition, if there are official race photographers on the course, theyll use your bib number to identify your race photos. So make sure your number is clearly visible when you see photographers on the course and especially at the finish line. If theres a B-Tag timing deviceon the back of your race bib, make sure its not bent or covered with clothing or a running belt.

5. Get There Early

Arrive at the race site early to make sure you get a parking spot. Regardless of whether youre driving there or not, youll also need time to pick up your number (if you havent already), check your bag, take awarm-up jog, and use the bathroom (the lines may be long).

6. Line Up Properly

Dont line up near the front of the starting line. Faster, more seasoned runners dont like to weave around newbie (and likely slower) runners at the start of the race. Some races have corrals based on estimated pace or post pace signs. If not, ask runners nearby their anticipated pace. If its faster than yours, move further back. It will be easier to fall into your pace if youre around people that are the same speed as you.

7. Use the Water Stops

Take advantage of the water stations on the course. If youve never done it before, here are some tips on how to take water from a hydration stop. And dont forget to thank the volunteers for handing out water!

8. Bring Your Support Team

Invite your friends and family members to support you. Ask them to stand near the finish line so they can cheer you on at the end. It will be much easier to push yourself at the end if you know youll see your loved ones there.

Securing Your Home Wireless Network

With the growth of wireless internet networks in private homes, caution must be taken to be sure that your network is “secure.”  What “secure” means in this instance is that your network is not available to be accessed by persons outside of your family, of visitors to your home to whom you have given temporary access.

What is a Home Wireless Network?
Networks are set up by connecting a piece of equipment called a “router” to your modem.” The router broadcasts a signal throughout your house that creates that can be picked up by your computers, smart phones, and tablets, providing access to the high speed Internet signal coming in to your modem.

The Danger of an Unprotected Network
While home networks have reached the point where they can be set up by nearly any skill level of user, not as many people are not aware of the dangers of not having their network secure, nor the steps they can take to make their network secure from intruders. An unprotected network could permit malicious ‘hackers’ to gain access to your data. In essence, accessing everything on your home computers by coming in through a “back door.”

Setting Up  and Securing Your Network
Once your router is connected to your modem, follow the instructions which will allow you to change certain settings on the router.  Generally this is accomplished via a secure website that the router manufacturer describes in the documentation that comes with the router.

Router Identification Names
Each router has an identification name. The default name is set by the manufacturer and is generally the name of the router manufacturer.  The first step in securing your network is to change the name of your router, to a unique word that is not easily guessed.  The identification name is also referred to as the SSID (service set identifier).  An important option at this step is to “disable the SSID broadcast.” What this means is when people sign on their computers near your network, and see a list of available networks in the area, your network will not be listed.

Router Passwords
The router will come with a preset password as well, and of course you should change the password to something that also cannot be easily guessed.   Neither the router’s identification name or the password should be something easy like your last name, or house address. Like any user name or passwords, they should be something easily remembered by you and your family, but not something that neighbors or strangers could obtain after several attempts of trying to log on to your network.

Security Options
As the technology of routers has advanced, so have the different types of security available within routers.  This “security” allows the network to communicate with your computer, as you have “told” your computer to recognize the type of security that the router is transmitting with.
While the router will give you several different options of security to choose from, if it is available designate the security level  as WPA2; WPA would be your second choice. These two options offer the most secure methods of protecting your network.

Guest Password
You may, as an option, set up a separate “guest password” for when visitors come to your house;  this is in lieu of you providing them with your own personal password, as they would have the ability to access your network after they visit. Depending on the type and quality of the router, some networks “broadcast” beyond the walls of your house, providing you with another reason to protect the network as best as you can.

Firewalls
A firewall is an additional layer of protection. In the event someone has gained access to your network, a firewall prevents them from using your computer to send out malicious emails or other data. Most computers have built in firewall software, and it is just a matter of choosing the option to turn it on. Many computers will prompt you if you shut your firewall off, and advise you that it is not the best idea.

Updating
As with any password advice you read, for any device or service, you should consider changing your router password from time to time. Of course, you will have to remember to advise your family members of the new password.

The wallpaper is one of the most basic customizations on any computing device, be it your computer screen or your phone. It is the one thing most of us change the moment we get our hands on a new device. — and, if you’re like me, every few days.

Unfortunately, it isn’t difficult to get bored by the stock wallpaper collection, and finding good wallpapers for Android phones on the web is not the easiest of tasks. Let us take that challenge, then, and present to you a collection of 60 kick-ass wallpaper images to spice up your home screens.

Note that the wallpapers in the list below are in two different sizes, which are most common across the huge variety of Android phones out there. It is virtually impossible to have different versions of every wallpaper image to match all the devices out there. It shouldn’t matter much though, since Android will let you crop an image to fit the device resolution when you select a wallpaper.
