Is It Possible To Send An Email That Is Completely Untraceable

Ed Opperman

Sometimes a person needs to send an anonymous email and they have to remain anonymous. They want the sent email to be completely untraceable so that they can never be identified. People hear about international hackers and Internet crimes so they assume that it is possible but is it really? The answer is both yes and no. Make no mistake about it, with enough time and money any email can be traced right back to the sender. Any online communication can be traced , the author identified and located. The best you can hope for is to make the trace more difficult for investigators.

The first thing most people will try to send an untraceable email is to create a fake email account. They will use fictitious information to fill out the application. While this may thwart most of the instant reverse email search data bases it will do nothing for you to conceal your identify. It will be a very simple matter for an investigator to trace the email right back to your computer. It could be as simple as just a quick header examination.

The next step a person might take would be to use a proxy server to mask their IP address. Its a quick and simple process to set up a proxy IP address into your email program and this will alter your email headers to look as if the email was sent from a different location. This will slow down the average investigator who is starting with the incoming email header as the initial focus of his investigation. But again the experienced investigator will not be distracted by a proxy IP or a forged header.

Another tactic the sender may use is an anonymous remailer program. Now this is where 90% of email investigators will just give up. But again the experienced email tracer has seen it all and has successfully identified people even if they are using an anonymous email re mailing service. In fact many times the person who will use a remailer may be easier to identify because they think theyre technically savvy and untouchable. They get overconfident, stupid and sloppy and will fall right into the traps set by the email investigator.

Lastly the would be anonymous emailer may think they can use a public computer in a library or perhaps a college to send their anonymous email. They think this will completely cover their tracks. But again this is simply wishful thinking. The incoming email will easily be traced right back to the public work station and these facilities will have records of the users. In fact these types of public places are very eager to cooperate with investigators that need to identify the sender of an email.

So in closing we can see that it really is impossible to send an untraceable anonymous email. Any information sent or received over the Internet can be traced to locate or identify the person or persons at the other end. While there are steps you can take to slow down the investigation or fool an instant data base search thorough reverse email search investigation will always return at least some identifying information about that other person at the end of the Internet communications.

Choosing an Email Client

Elad Domb

Email client software lets you connect to your email account and download emails. It also lets you compose (or create) emails which you can send later. An email client stores all your emails on your system, allowing you to sort and manage the email messages in the way you want. Many email clients also allow you to personalize your messages using pictures and templates. An email client should do more than simply allow you to send and receive emails. Many email clients have added features that allow you to sort through and manage your emails. You can create folders and subfolders so you can categorize your incoming and outgoing mail. Some email clients allow you to tag certain email addresses so when you receive an email from a particular person, it immediately gets filed into a folder within your inbox. If you receive a large volume of emails in a week, as many people do, you can also set-up your email client to sort messages by date, sender or subject.

Email is notoriously unsecured. Email messages are prone to viruses and are used to spread malware and spyware. Some email clients are more susceptible to viruses than other programs. In general, the more commonly used email interfaces are the ones that are the least secure. This is simply because there are millions of messages being transmitted using these programs each day. The sheer volume of numbers makes using these email clients a greater risk. When looking at which email client to use, make sure the one you choose has a level of security built into the system. This should include things such as firewalls and anti-virus programs.

Another consideration is how an email client deals with spam. Spam is generally referred to as unwanted or unsolicited mail. Much like junk mail used to clog up physical mailboxes, spam clogs up email inboxes. Email is an easy and affordable way to send out bulk mail and unfortunately, too many companies take advantage of this. They collect email addresses and just randomly send out junk mail to everyone on the list. As with viruses, certain email clients are more prone to spam mail than others. When looking around at your different options, make inquiries as to what protection the system has against spam mail. Receiving spam mail is mostly annoying but it can also be harmful to your computer as it could contain spyware or viruses.

Properly selecting the email client you will use on a daily basis will make your work flow more quickly. There are many tasks accomplished by the mail client that are intended to simplify your work. One part of your decision on which client to use will depend on the tasks that you perform most often.

Simply assess the tasks that you perform and rate them in order of frequency. For your email client to aid you in your everyday tasks, you first need to define what those tasks are. If you send pictures or sound files, then look for mail clients that specialize in making it easy to include these in your mail. List the features that each email client offers. These features will be the major source of information to match your needs to the particular mail client. If you need an address book and one or two of the clients dont offer them, then eliminate them from the list of possibilities.

Try out each potential client youre considering for its feel, intuitiveness, and ease of use. Check the particular features you need to see how they function. Decide if the tasks that you perform on a daily basis are easy and quick to accomplish.

Choose the email client that you have determined will meet your needs. Remember that you are never stuck with an email client. You always have the ability to change to another if you find that the one you picked, for some reason, fails to deliver.

What Can You Do If Your Email Account Is Wiped

Sam Qam

Not so long ago many Gmail users went to check their mail only to find that their entire inbox and all their contact had been completely deleted. This shocking discovery was something done by Google by accident and only affected a very small percentage of its total users but made many people think about what would happen if all their emails were suddenly wiped forever. With approximately 300 billion emails being sent every day around the world, and as you are probably an email user yourself, you can imagine the carnage this could cause.

This article will attempt to offer some solutions as to what you can do if this happens to you.

Check who you are signed in as

If you are using one of the many popular online email providers like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo mail etc. it is possible that you have signed in as someone else. When you sign in you will notice that you can tick a box which says something like remember me which means that every time this computer comes to this mail homepage it will automatically sign you in under whichever password that was used when that box was ticked. If you check the user name you are signed in you may find that your sudden terror need only last for a couple of seconds before you switch back to your account.

Check your hard drive

If this is not the case you may want to start checking your hard drive. Many email systems, both online and offline provide a system where they back up all your emails in a folder on your hard drive so that you cant lose them. If this is the case you may be able to just bring your emails back to life with a few mouse clicks. Also, if you use a payment service provider and you get a lot of your emails through them when for payment notifications for example, chances are they may have a back-up of a lot of your important emails such as receipts of payments and invoices.

Contact your supplier

If this doesnt work you may want to contact your email supplier. Companies like Google will generally fall over themselves to help you as getting a bad reputation for losing emails is bad for business. Chances are your supplier will have a back-up of your emails on their servers which they will be able to use to restore your emails to how they were before they got deleted.

Will A Reverse Email Search Investigation Work On A Gmail Account

Ed Opperman

There is a lot of false information floating around about Gmail and the reverse email search. Many people seem to think that you cant identify the owner of a Gmail account using a reverse email trace report. They base this opinion on the belief that Gmail will strip the senders IP address from the headers. This is faulty thinking to say the least. First of all the IP address is not stripped from the header in every case. In fact in many cases you will be able to find the senders IP number in the header and you can traced that back to their ISP. This may also give you valuable information about the sender or at the very least the senders geographic location.

In some cases you can take that little bit of information and make a 100% accurate identification of the owner of the email address.

But lets say we need to identify the owner of a Gmail account and the headers have been stripped the IP information. All is not lost because that is only a very small part of a professional email trace report.

An experienced investigator will have access to databases with literally hundreds of millions of names and email addresses. If they investigate emails as a full time endeavor they will most likely have complied their own data base of emails on top of that.

Additionally an email investigator worth his salt will have a huge check list of online resources where people sign up for accounts using email address that have to be verified before they can open an account. Sometimes these accounts are directly connected to banking accounts or credit cards.

But even if its a brand new email account and it was only created for the specific purpose of stalking and harassing you its still possible to identify the Gmail account owner using good old fashioned investigative techniques. The kinds to tricks and traps that have been used for years by investigators to locate dead beats, runaways and bail jumpers. Many of these methods have been used successfully on a daily basis all over the world long before email was ever in popular use. Now with the Internet these tried and true proven methods are even more successful and even faster than ever before.

So dont believe the hype that Gmail is untraceable but dont let the cyber stalkers know that.
