Korean manufacturer LG Electronics has reported Q2 net profits of 159 billion won ($138 million), up 46 percent from the second quarter of last year. Attributable largely to a program of cost reductions and a shift away from low-margin products such as tablets, the jump comes amid a 10.6 percent decline in overall takings. While LGs home entertainment, appliance, and air conditioning divisions performed strongly, revenues from the companys mobile business fell 28.5 percent year-on-year.
LG Mobile Communications Company made a 57 billion won ($49 million) operating loss in the second quarter, which the company attributes to marketing expenses for devices such as the Optimus 4X HD. Reuters notes that LG has been squeezed from both ends of the mobile market in recent months, with Chinese manufacturers ZTE and Huawei putting pressure on the low end and the premium segment proving difficult to crack. LGs mobile division reported a 22 percent increase in smartphone shipments as a proportion of overall sales, but much of this can be attributed to a decline in demand for its lower-end feature phones.
LG Home Entertainment Company has posted far more positive results — while overall sales declined 5.8 percent year-on-year, Q2 operating profit more than doubled to 216 billion won ($188 million). The companys Cinema 3D TVs performed particularly well, and LG stresses that it will continue to "aggressively promote" the technology to drive further sales. It expects general demand for TVs to increase into next year, due partly to growing sales in the developing world. Whether this will be enough to jumpstart overall revenue growth in the coming quarters remains to be seen.

QSlide On LG Optimus G
The QSlide feature on the LG Optimus G is a multitaskers best friend. Unlike the multiwindow function on the Samsung GALAXY Note II, which lets you cut the screen in half to use two apps at the same time, QSlide doesnt require the user to use the apps in a cramped space on the screen. With QSlide, two apps are using the devices 4.7 inch screen at once and one or the other app becomes translucent by sliding the QSlide controls. Controlling the level of translucency for each app, the user can watch a video while composing email, send a text while browsing the web, or do any type of multitasking while still using the full 4.7 inch display.
Its a brilliant idea and the story of how it was discovered makes you realize that inspiration can come anywhere, from anything or anybody. While LGs Senior Research Engineer Sebastian Hochan Song was driving in a car with his younger sister and nephew, the windows on the car fogged up. Watching his nephew draw on the fogged-up window from the rear-view mirror, it looked to Song as though his nephew was drawing on a transparent layer over the background of the outside. It was as though he was drawing on two layers and the engineer could see both of them at the same time. With this, QSlide was born.
While LG was able to make the second layer appear right away, controlling the level of translucency was difficult, according to Song. But the concept has been perfected and it is now one of the new features on the LG Optimus G.

LG holding tablet plans to focus on smartphones

After finding little success with its line of Optimus Pad Android tablets, LG has apparently decided to quit while its behind. A company spokesman has today revealed that LG wont be doing much new development on the tablet front, choosing instead to focus on smartphones. Along with Samsung, LG is one of the worlds biggest electronics manufacturers out there which produce their own laptops, smartphones, TVs and home appliances, so its decision to exit the tablet market (even if its just a temporary one) strikes us as a rather bold step to take. Then again, it also illustrates perfectly how difficult it is for any hardware manufacturer not named Apple to turn tablets into a profitable business — something which Microsofts overnight introduction of own-brand Surface tablets is not going to make any easier. As the LG representative notes, however, Microsofts Surface tablets are not seen as "competing with anything we’re focusing on at the moment."
[My Take]
Knowing when to pause when you see that it is not your time in that domain is a smart move. Focusing on an area where you can be better at is a smarter move. Although concentrating on something you are already great at is the smartest move. LG must focus on both smartphones and smart TVs. Always being in the number two spot or three can be challenging yet very exhausting for LG. If only they could be the number one in TV which is not that hard to achieve since they already have tons of smart TV products and services that really catch our attention. They just need to fine-tune them and create more unique features that can stand out more in the TV crowd.

LG N2B1 NAS With Blu Ray Burner
Unlike most Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, LG’s latest N2B1 boasts a built-in Blu-ray burner for archiving data from up to 50 gigabytes into Blu-ray disc. The device features two hard drive bays, a memory card reader (SD/XD/MMX/MS), 3x USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA port, Gigabit Ethernet and is compatible with PCs, Macs and Linux machines. LG Optimus L9 II Release Date
LG Optimus L9 II Release Date - Having yesterday been first leaked to the public, LG Optimus L9 II was officially released in the Netherlands. There is little wqzxc difference in the specifications of the leaked yesterday on the processor. Previously rumored that the Optimus L9 II brings dual-core 1GHz processor, however, has revealed the official LG Optimus L9 II has a clock speed of 1.4 GHz.

LG Optimus L9 II runs Android 4.1.2 operating system Jelly Bean. There is no further information about the selling price of these devices. wqzxc Optimus L9 II likely will be on sale in October.
